Vincci Selección Posada del Patio 5* has been awarded BREEAM certification

The prestigious international certification recognizes the Málaga hotel’s commitment to more sustainable, efficient management focused on the well-being of guests and teams.

Located in the heart of Málaga’s historic centre, Vincci Selección Posada del Patio 5* has obtained the international BREEAM certification, a benchmark international recognition in the field of sustainable building construction and management that assesses its environmental, social and operational performance based on objective and verifiable criteria.

The certification establishes different levels and, in the case of the five-star establishment of Vincci Hotels in Málaga, it has obtained a “Very Good” rating, achieving an overall score of 55.36% and standing out particularly in three of the areas assessed: Transport, with 86%; Resilience, with 72%; and Health and Wellbeing, with 68%. These results highlight both the hotel’s ability to promote mobility alternatives and the measures implemented to improve people’s comfort and the building’s adaptation to new environmental challenges.

BREEAM is one of the most internationally recognized methods for assessing and certifying the sustainability of buildings. Its methodology comprehensively analyses issues such as management, health and wellbeing, energy efficiency, transport, water use, resources, resilience and the environmental impact of the property. To obtain the certification, it is necessary to provide documentary evidence of compliance with the requirements and pass an on-site audit of the building.

In the case of Vincci Selección Posada del Patio 5*, the assessment was carried out under the BREEAM ES In-Use scheme, specifically designed for existing buildings in operation.

These include the installation of sensor taps in the bathrooms of the common areas, urinals with presence detectors in the main areas and flow reducers in all the hotel’s showers and taps.

These initiatives make it possible to translate sustainability criteria into specific elements of the establishment’s daily operations, from indoor environmental quality to the efficient use of resources.

The result obtained in Transport, the hotel’s highest-scoring category, also highlights the establishment’s good performance in one of the areas analysed by BREEAM, related to mobility and the ability to promote alternatives that reduce dependence on private vehicles.

What does BREEAM certify?

BREEAM is an international method for assessing and certifying the sustainability of buildings, created in 1990 by Building Research Establishment (BRE). It currently has more than 600,000 certified buildings in 93 countries and has been adapted since 2010 to the language, regulations and construction practices of Spain.

Its methodology makes it possible to objectively measure the sustainable performance of a building through different categories and certification levels, providing a comprehensive view of its environmental and social performance. In the case of existing buildings, such as Vincci Selección Posada del Patio 5*, the BREEAM ES In-Use scheme assesses aspects related to management, health and wellbeing, energy, transport, water, resources, resilience, land use and ecology, and pollution.

The certification must be renewed every three years, encouraging a periodic review of results and continuous improvement in the sustainable performance of properties.
