Vincci Hotels celebrates World Recycling Day with ‘Circular Rice’

On the occasion of World Recycling Day, the hotel chain presents an innovative circular economy project that transforms recycled Nespresso coffee capsules into unique rice dishes for its restaurants.

The initiative will be implemented throughout 2025 in the dining spaces of selected hotels of the chain in various Spanish destinations: Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Málaga, Seville, Cádiz, and Tenerife.

Vincci Hoteles reaffirms its commitment to sustainable tourism with the launch of “Arroz Circular”, a pioneering circular economy initiative that will take place throughout 2025, while supplies last. Coinciding with the celebration of International Recycling Day (May 17), the hotel chain presents this project in which Nespresso coffee capsules used in its hotels are transformed into high-quality natural compost for rice cultivation at the Cámara Arrocera del Montsià, in the Ebro Delta.

That same rice then returns to Vincci kitchens to become the star ingredient in some of their dishes—from seafood rice to sweet options like rice pudding—reflecting the essence and creativity of each establishment.

The initiative was presented this Tuesday, May 13, at Vincci Soho 4* hotel in Madrid, with media participation and remarks from César Pérez, Director of Quality and Sustainability at Vincci Hoteles, who highlighted the value of this project:

“These rice dishes tell a story—a circular journey that passes through the rice fields of the Ebro Delta and reaches the kitchens of our establishments. At Vincci Hoteles, we work so that every action, no matter how small, has a truly positive impact on our surroundings.”

Meanwhile, Nayara Fuentes, Head of Sustainability at Nespresso Spain, said she feels “satisfied to know that we have partners truly committed to sustainability, with whom we share values and a common commitment. It is clear that a small gesture, such as recycling, can have a positive impact on the environment.”

The Nespresso coffee capsules collected at the chain's hotels go through a recycling process that separates the aluminum from the coffee grounds. The grounds are turned into compost that nourishes rice fields in the Ebro Delta, producing a local, high-quality product that returns to the tables of Vincci Hoteles.

The initiative will be rolled out in the dining areas of a carefully selected group of the chain’s hotels: Vincci Soma 4*, Vincci Soho 4*, Vincci The Mint 4*, and Vincci Vía 66 4* in Madrid; Vincci Selección Posada del Patio 5* and Vincci Selección Aleysa 5* in Málaga; Vincci Gala 4* and Vincci Marítimo 4* in Barcelona; Vincci Consulado de Bilbao 4* in Bilbao; Vincci Selección La Plantación del Sur 5* in Tenerife; Vincci Costa Golf 4* in Cádiz; and Vincci La Rábida 4* and Vincci Selección Unuk GL 5* in Seville.

In each of them, at least one dish on the menu will feature this circular rice, identified with a specific icon and an explanatory note about the project.

Among the available options are savory dishes such as seafood rice, Iberian pork rice, or red mullet rice, and for dessert, a delicate rice pudding.
