The 21st "Al Detalle para el Recuerdo" Bullfighting Award, promoted by the Vincci Hoteles chain to pay tribute to the most memorable moments of Seville’s Feria de Abril, has in this edition gone to the Sevillian matadors Manuel Escribano, Pepe Moral, and Esaú Fernández.
The jury, which met on Sunday, May 11 at the Vincci La Rábida hotel and was made up of renowned bullfighting critics and aficionados, decided to grant the award to the matadors for their"historic and unprecedented gesture of greeting all six Miura bulls a portagayola during the bullfight held at the Real Maestranza. Three local matadors who, with bravery, commitment, and deep dedication, created a moment that will go down in bullfighting history. A gesture of great symbolism, which enhances the Feria de Sevilla and honors the tradition of a city that lives and breathes bullfighting with passion."
Once again, the jury was made up of prominent figures from the bullfighting and cultural worlds: Luis Manuel Halcón Guardiola, Miguel Serrano Falcón, José Murube Ricart, Enrique Moreno de la Cova, José María Michavila Núñez, Eduardo Dávila Miura, Martina Blatiere, Rocío de la Cámara Ysern, Almudena de la Maza Ybarra, Gabriel Malaver Peláez, Juan Antonio Ruiz Román “Espartaco”, José Luis García Mera (secretary), and Rafael Calero Gracia, who presided over the panel.
The "Al Detalle para el Recuerdo" Bullfighting Award seeks to support and recognize each year the contributions of participants in the fair. Past recipients have included the Garcigrande, Victorino Martín, and Miura ranches, as well as matadors Manuel Escribano, Pablo Aguado, José Antonio ‘Morante de la Puebla’, Julián López ‘El Juli’, and Enrique Ponce, among others. The awards were established because “one of our greatest passions has always been the world of bullfighting,” explains Rafael Calero. “We are also very proud that many of these matadors choose to stay with us, given our admiration and deep respect for this profession.”
