The hotel group positions itself as a benchmark in responsible tourism by renewing its Ecostars sustainability certification chain-wide, coinciding with the upcoming World Tourism Day (September 27). This recertification of the hotel-specific label, recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), confirms the continuity of a solid, long-term sustainability strategy, strengthening Vincci Hoteles’ commitment to tourism that leaves a positive footprint.

Vincci Hoteles celebrates World Tourism Day this September 27 with the renewal of its Ecostars sustainability certification, a hotel-specific label recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and an ESG platform that assesses the environmental impact of accommodations. This certification confirms the chain’s commitment to a responsible management model, integrating environmental, social, and governance criteria into all processes and decisions, consolidating the company as a leader in responsible tourism both in Spain and internationally.

Ecostars is considered the only certification that measures the actual impact of each property, as it goes beyond assessing best practices by quantifying real consumption per stay in key indicators such as water, energy, CO₂ emissions, recycling, and sustainable food. Its fully digital and automated methodology is based on real data provided by the hotels themselves—such as bills and energy consumption—ensuring objective and transparent measurement. In addition, it is recognized by international organizations such as the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), reinforcing its credibility compared to other industry standards.

After receiving the news, César Pérez, Quality and Sustainability Director at Vincci Hoteles, stated: “At Vincci Hoteles, we believe in a tourism model that not only cares for our guests but also for the environment in which we operate. This renewal of the certification granted by Ecostars is another step in an ambitious, honest roadmap aligned with what society expects from us.”

“Vincci Hoteles is a clear example of how sustainability can be a transversal strategy, combining service excellence with a truly positive impact on the environment,” said José Luis Santos, CEO of Ecostars.

Vincci Hoteles’ properties with exemplary performance

Vincci Hoteles has renewed the certification chain-wide, across all its properties, and in addition, Ecostars has recognized five of its hotels for their exemplary sustainability performance: Vincci Ponte de Ferro Oporto 4* (Porto), Vincci Mae 4* (Barcelona), Vincci Soma 4* (Madrid), Vincci Puertochico 4* (Santander), and Vincci Consulado de Bilbao 4* (Bilbao). All of them achieved very positive results in waste management, water and energy savings, responsible purchasing, and operational efficiency.

Sustainability: an essential pillar in Vincci Hoteles’ strategy

In recent years, Vincci Hoteles has not only maintained exemplary environmental performance but has also intensified its efforts to align with the highest international standards through pioneering initiatives that reinforce its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the most demanding European standards, such as those set out in the new CSRD directive.

Among the main milestones achieved in the past year are the acquisition of the Energy Savings Certificate (CAE), which recognizes improved efficiency in its facilities after targeted investments in energy sustainability, and the purchase of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs). Likewise, the chain has stepped up the reduction of single-use plastics in its properties, prioritizing compostable, reusable packaging and alternatives more respectful of the environment.

Another notable initiative is its participation in the ‘Arroz Circular’ project with Nespresso, which transforms used coffee capsules into fertilizer for rice cultivation in the Ebro Delta. Once harvested, this rice returns to the group’s establishments to be included in its restaurants’ gastronomic offerings, thus closing the loop of a more conscious economy.

At the social level, the chain has launched a Corporate Volunteering Plan that fosters the active involvement of its staff in causes aligned with the SDGs.

In the events and renovations carried out throughout 2025, Vincci Hoteles has chosen sustainable materials and efficient technologies. A prime example is its stand at the last edition of FITUR, designed under sustainability and reuse criteria.

All of this has made the group deserving of various credentials such as ISO 14001 certification, for the integration of quality and environmental management in each of its hotels; ISO 50001 certification, an international standard for energy management providing the strongest framework to optimize energy efficiency; Travelife and Biosphere certifications in some of its hotels; and also awards such as the Tourism Merit Medal granted by the Ministry of Industry in the Sustainability and Quality category.

In line with its commitment, Vincci Hoteles publishes an Annual Sustainability Report each year, following Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. The chain’s various practices in these areas can be consulted on its corporate website Vincci Hoteles Sustainable&Responsible.

Vincci Hoteles thus continues to consolidate a tourism model where the guest experience is always accompanied by a positive impact, striving for a future that is more responsible, transparent, and connected to the environment.
