One of the most enchanting and beautiful cities in all of Spain, Salamanca is, with its’ endless list of monuments, palaces, houses, artistic and architectural beauty an absolutely breathtaking place to visit.
If that wasn’t enough, and time was of the essence, a simple afternoon stroll through the city streets when the sun is going down and reflects from the stone to light the city gold is a sight to see in itself.
Sitting on the banks of the Tormes river this gem of a place deserves the praise it received in 1985 by UNESCO as Patrimonio de la Humanidad.
Home to the very first university in Spain, which, is also one of the oldest in Europe, it goes without saying that Salamanca has been home to some of the worlds most prolific and brilliant minds. Some of the greatest Spanish philosophers and writers have lived here and whilst you walk amongst the towns more recent student population, you find that Salamanca has evolved to accommodate them by becoming a very “young”, dynamic and diverse place open to the many influences of the outside world. So much so in fact, that you’ll feel right at home.
In culinary terms, “tapas” is what Salamanca is famous for and if you take a stroll through calle Zamora, Toro, Clavel, San Pablo or San Justo you’ll get a chance to try some local specialties like charcuteria of Guijuelo, picadillo or el hornazo.
