Rafael Moneo, one of Spain’s leading contemporary architects, is behind Vincci Hoteles’ new project, in the centre of Malaga (in Calle Hoyo de Esparteros). The architect from Navarre, the only Spaniard to have won the PRITZER Architecture Prize, has designed both the building and the interiors, taking the spectacular light in Malaga as his main theme. The launch of this new 4-star hotel, expected to be a new icon for the city centre, is planned for 2016.
This latest addition to Vincci Hoteles’ select list of establishments will be rented by the company over a period of 20 years. The development, owned by Promociones Braser, will see an investment of around 30 million euros along with the creation of some 50 jobs. Carlos Calero, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Vincci Hoteles, said, “this new hotel is very attractive for us, not just because of its strategic location in a place like Malaga, but because it’s a hotel that has been designed from the very start to have its own unique personality, something that is a characteristic of our hotels. It will be an emblem for the city and for our company”.
This new hotel confirms the solid commitment Vincci Hoteles has to Malaga, with the company having the only five-star hotel in the city, and to the Costa del Sol, where the chain now has five hotels.
Characteristics of the project
The hotel will be in a new 10-storey building, and will have 138 rooms. It will also have 220 spaces in an underground car park, a restaurant-cafeteria with open-air terrace, breakfast room, function room and a spectacular out-door terrace with swimming pool, bar and views over the historic old town.
From an architectural perspective, the brilliant light of the south of Spain is one of the main design elements, with it permeating the entire building. The interior patio helps to achieve this goal. Moreover, the rooms have balconies decorated with hand-made Mensaque Andalusian ceramic tiles, which beautifully capture and reflect the potent light found in the area.
