It’s Thursday and time to get to know a little bit better our recently launched Barcelona Vincci Bit! If last week we showed you the ground floor of the hotel, today we go down to basement minus one to admire the work from the Russian studio Dopludo Collective. In this space, dedicated to rooms for holding all kinds of events and meetings, you’ll be surprised by the white walls decorated with colorful and detailed drawings from this trio of Russian artists.
The drawings are of objects that are very different and unrelated but have as a common denominator the capacity to transmit to the observer the sensation of floating, producing a strange visual effect. To carry out this work, the Dopludo Collective used colored sprays and gouash.
Dopludo Collective is a small team of three young artists and illustrators who have their headquarters in Moscow, San Petersburg and cold Scandinavia. It was founded in 2006 and the word “Dopludo” comes from a phonetic transcription of the french expresssion “deux plus deux”, which is “two plus two”. At the heart of the name of this creative trio lays the absurd mathematical formula 2+2=5, that has been proved on various occasions and is a potential key to reconsidering all mathematics from the ground up.
The members of the Duplodo team enjoy working with images from magical fairy tales, folk elements, mystics and content that is more or less abstract, usually taking the point of view of the world through the eyes of an unsophisticated child, whose life is still a journey of discovery.
In working with sense, the main themes of the collective’s works are the convention of all boundaries, the prevalence of essence over existence, and the primacy of mind over matter.
