Experience a week of cinema in Valladolid with Vincci Hotels

Are you a movie buff? Do you spend hours in front of the television watching movies? If you consider yourself a fan of movies, we in Vincci Hotels suggest you pack your bags and travel to Valladolid. The city will hold from the 20th to the 27th of October the 57th Edition of its International Film Festival(Seminci), where several films will be screened and where there will be several world renowned actors, directors and artists.

All of them will be competing for the famous Golden Spike  which last year went to the Belgian film “Come as you are” by Geoffrey Enthoven. This festival has been witness to several legendary moments in the past, such  as the release in 1975 of “A Clockwork Orange” by Kubrick, Brad Pitt´s attendance in 1991, and the awarding of the Prince of Asturias award to Woody Allen, in 2008.

The Teatro Calderón is the event’s main venue and will host the closing ceremony and the awarding of prizes, the inauguration and various showings of the official selection. The rest of the films will be shown in different cinemas and venues around town.

If we’ve convinced you and you’ve decided to go to Valladolid to witness Seminci, don’t forget to make a reservation in the Vincci Frontaura 4* hotel, a newly built seven story hotel that combines design and functionality. It’s because Valladolid has a lot to see, besides its festival.  Leave a spot between movies to go and see its famous Plaza Mayor, meeting point for people from Valladolid and tourists, one of the largest in Spain and whose structure was copied by cities like Madrid and Salamanca. Here you can also see the town hall, one of the most iconic buildings.

Walk the old city and admire its beautiful buildings and streets. Don’t forget to visit the Cathedral, the Colegio de San Gregorio, notable for its facade and courtyard as well as the University, one of the oldest in Spain. Valladolid is also well known for its churches, such as St. Paul, Antigua and St. Benedict.

Stroll and relax in the Campo Grande, the largest urban park in the city, with a lake where you can take a boat ride and which also hides a waterfall.

Be sure to try the local cuisine: eat well and cheaply. The main dish is the lamb, but you shouldn’t miss out on tasting the sweet things too. Tapas and snacks accompanied by a good wine in the bars of the historic area is also an excellent choice. There are several wine producing regions in the province of Valladolid: Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Cigales, Toro and the tierras of León.

The city offers also a great variety of local nightlife. The main areas to go out are the Cathedral and Passage Gutierrez, San Miguel, Coca, the Paraiso and La Antigua.

Are you still thinking about it? Just go ahead and visit Valladolid to enjoy its cinema, its variety of monuments and its environment. In Vincci we’ll be waiting for you!
