The summer weather has gone on for an age this year and those of us who are desperate to go gliding over the white stuff can’t wait any longer to get our boots on. The ski resort of Sierra Nevada knows exactly how we feel, so this weekend they’re launching the new winter season in the Puerta del Sol, in the centre of Madrid. So now you know, if you’re desperate for the first flakes to fall and fancy a fun time, get your friends together and head down to what promises to be an entertaining event.
The weather forecast suggests that things are looking good for the snow that’s fallen in the past few days to bed in across the Andalusian resort, and conditions over the mountain are improving ahead of the scheduled opening, which like every year is planned for the last weekend in November (29 and 30).
The only five-star hotel in the heart of Sierra Nevada, the hotel Vincci Rumaikyya5* is also excitedly getting ready to open its doors on the December holiday weekend (6th to 8th). The highest hotel in Europe with direct access to the pistes (red piste), and a chairlift at the door of the hotel, is getting ready for the challenge it sets itself every year: making sure the guests have the best stay possible.
Few things are as pleasing to snow-lovers as coming out of their hotel in the morning and, instead of stepping onto concrete, being able to strap on their skis or snowboard and glide away. And arriving back at the hotel after hours amidst the white stuff isn’t any less pleasurable, as there’s a spa where you can relax after a hard day on the piste.
