Tenerife

Just off the west coast of Africa you’ll find the Tenerife, the largest island in he “Canaries”. At it’s highest point, Tenerife is 3717 metres above sea level and since the island only covers a little more than 2000 square kilometres you can imagine what kind of diverse and interesting journeys you can take whilst trying to reach the summit of Spain’s highest summit. It’s southern situation and it’s inevitable sea breeze means you’ll get very little in the way of climate change throughout the whole year, which makes it a very popular destination for visitors from all over Europe if not the world.

The capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, famous for it’s yearly “Carnival” is also known for it’s beauty, port and beaches like the one you’ll find in the fishing neighbourhood of Las Teresitas. The old capital, San Cristobal de la Laguna is also well worth a visit, today a university city, it’s home to some beautiful and impressive landmarks such as the Cathedral. Whilst strolling through it’s streets, steep in the rich colonial feeling of the place, you’ll soon come to realise amidst the regal homes and palaces why it was declared Patron of Humanity.

You’ll also find on the north coat of the island “Puerto de la Cruz”, the original tourist spot of the 21st century with it’s outstanding hotel facilities and amazing beaches falling right off the volcanic rock. Nearby is the Valle de la Orotava, an amazing place to hike across some of the most surprising landscape your likely to find anywhere with views to take you breathe away. Whilst your on your journey be sure to visit La Oratava, Arona and Icod de los Vinos.

The national reserve in the centre of the island sitting right on top of the volcano is open only when the volcanic activity is declared as benign. Sounding quite frightening it does not stop the fact that wildlife flourish in the surroundings. Take a ride in the cable car to various different viewing points and you can see the impact of that the temperature and climate changes in the area have on the landscape from a birds eye view.

The south of the island is for the somewhat more sporting types and by saying this we means water sports. You can take advantage of the temperate waters and golden sandy beaches almost all year round.

There are 2 areas on this part of the island Adeje, the area in which the south part of the island gets its name is in essence, a small village with a strong colonial feel, visiting La Casa Fuerte and the Santa Brigada church gives you the true feeling and history of the area. Nowadays surrounding Adeje, is an endless line of beach, beach and more beach. There are so many to choose from they have to be named, the Americas, the Christians and the Giants to name but a few, all of which are surrounded by luxury villas, top class hotels and some excellent sports facilities.

Last but not least, a visit to the village of Arona is essential. Situated a couple of miles inland from the coast, this area provides you with a peek of some of the more important historic parts of the island, a visit to the San Antonio Abad and the town church will convince you of that. But this being Tenerife regardless of historic architecture and tradition nearby blending in harmoniously you’ll find top quality hotel resorts and some incredible watersport facilities, even a pool with real sea water.

Tenerife has been known for decades as one of the prime tourist destinations and this is no coincidence. People flock here not only for the sun and sand but also for the excellent accommodation and services on offer along with welcoming people and fantastic gastronomy.
