The Alhambra and Generalife
This is the best-known Arab construction in the world. In the beginning (13th century), it was a military fort, the alcazaba, but later its perimeter was extended with the construction of the beautiful Nazari palaces. The Generalife was built adjoining the Alhambra in the 14th century and is famous the world over for its fountains and gardens.

The Cathedral and the Royal Chapel
Located in the very centre of the city, Granada Cathedral is, along with the Alhambra, one of the most emblematic monuments in the city. In the Renaissance style, it was built over a former mosque.
Next to the Cathedral is the Royal Chapel, a Gothic temple where the remains of the conquerors of Granada, King Fernando and Queen Isabel, were laid to rest.
Albayzín and Sacromonte
Declared "World Heritage" by the UNESCO, the Moorish quarter Albayzín represents the essence of the city of Granada. Little squares, a labyrinth of streets, a myriad of typically Moorish corners on a hill that overlooks the Alhambra.
Sacromonte is famous for its cave-homes where the well-known Flamenco shows are held. Op top is the Abbey, where the ashes of the Patron Saint of Granada, Saint Cecilio, are kept.
Other areas and monuments that merit a visit are the Alcaicería quarter, the Cartuja Monastery, the San Jerónimo Monastery, the Carmen de los Mártires, the Basilica de las Angustias, the Sacromonte Abbey, the Casa de los Tiros and the Palace of the Madraza, to mention but a few.
Sierra Nevada
Winter sports enthusiasts cannot forget this route, where there are an average of 250 sunny days a year. It is possible to go skiing from November to May in the areas where the altitude exceeds 2,500 metres and all year round in the highest areas. A good idea is to take the Granada-Veleta road, the highest in Europe, and stop at Km. 14 to enjoy the fantastic view from the Balcón de Canales.
Visitors should also remember to visit the science park, the Arabic baths and of course, the wide range of bars and restaurants in the city.
