Vincci Hoteles in Spain is now part of ‘The Great Chain’, a project developed and promoted by the Roca Brothers and Ecovidrio with the goal of recycling all the glass used in the Spanish hospitality industry. Since 2012 our chain has multiplied by five the amount of glass it recycles.
The decor at each Vincci Hoteles establishment is completely different. Each design is adapted to the hotel’s location, but for a few weeks now most of them have had one item in common, one which hasn’t gone unremarked by our guests: an incredibly charming mini-igloo, which is nothing more than another example of our commitment to the environment. We’ve joined ‘La Gran Cadena’ (‘The Great Chain’, link in Spanish), a project developed and promoted by the Roca Brothers and Ecovidrio with the goal of recycling all the glass used in the Spanish hospitality industry.
And in line with the campaign’s motto “in this chain, you make the most important link”, our hotels have become links in this great chain that’s committed to helping our planet. You can see the mini-igloos on the rooftop terrace of the Vincci Mercat 4* Valencia, between the Roman walls at the Vincci Selección Posada del Patio 5* and looking out over Madrid’s Gran Vía from the Vincci Capitol 4* Madrid.
Sustainability, just another part of our daily work
Our collaboration with ‘The Great Chain’, alongside Ecovidrio and the Roca Brothers, validates, yet again, the Medal for Merit in Tourism in the category of Sustainability and Quality presented to the president of Vincci Hoteles, Rufino Calero Cuevas, as well as the daily work of our team to care for the environment.
And it’s work that’s backed up by statistics. Since 2012 we’ve been recycling glass and raising awareness among our staff and guests of how important it is to do so. The results are the reward for the effort put in, having improved every year, multiplying by five times from 2012 to 2016:
Year Amount collected in kg
2016 222,904
2015 171,635
2014 93,718
2013 52,476
2012 47,926
More than 1000 restaurants have already joined this great chain. If you own or run a restaurant or hotel you too can take part. You just need to register on their website (link in Spanish) and you’ll receive your mini-igloo, and above all, the great sensation of knowing you are part of a community that cares about its environment.
And on an individual basis you can also take part by buying your own mini-igloo so you can recycle at home and support a good cause, with all the proceeds going to social causes. Our team – receptionists, chambermaids, bellboys, housekeepers, directors – have already got theirs!
