After a break of two years the Pingüinos (Penguins) motorcycle rally is back for its 34th edition, from 12 to 15 January 2017, under the title ‘¡¡El reto!!’ (The Challenge!!). The aim: ensure the spirit of the Motorbike Fiesta lives on, despite having not been held since 2014.
Up to 20,000 bikers are expected in the city on the banks of the Pisuerga river, for a party dedicated to everything two-wheeled, at the Antigua Hípica Militar grounds. And they’ll be looking up at the heavens, urging the rains to behave themselves.
Pingüino Programme 2017
This year, for the first time, on the first day of the event – 12 January – there’ll be free access without needing to be registered, for everyone who wants to discover the thrilling world of the Pingüinos.
The motorcycle rally will have the usual events, including the flag parade to the centre of Valladolid (Saturday 14 January at noon), the New Year’s Eve and New Year Pingüino party and the torchlight procession from the Poniente Bridge to Plaza Mayor, paying homage to those motorcyclists who died (Saturday 14 January at 20:00).
The programme also includes a ride to the town of Boecillo, old headquarters of the Pingüinos, and various concerts, with highlights such as Obús, on Friday, and Celtas Cortos, on Saturday night.
The rally finishes on Sunday, with the award of the Pingüinos de Oro (Golden Penguins), which this year go to racer Héctor Barberá and, posthumously, to Luis Salóm and José Maria Alonso “Chemari”.
