The hotel Vincci Capitol has been part of Madrid’s cultural and social life for more than eight decades, becoming one of the city’s visual and architectural references. Santiago Segura ended up swinging from its famous advertising hoarding in ‘El Día de la Bestia’, turning its façade into one of Gran Vía’s icons. Known as the Carrión building, since its construction it’s guarded innumerable secrets which will be revealed on 22 October 2016 as part of Madrid Otra Mirada (MOM) [Madrid Another View], when 10 people will have the exclusive opportunity to discover its history and tales, with a guided visit to this unmistakable building.

It was a revolutionary in the 30s, thanks to its art deco style, and over the years it has become one of the symbols of Gran Vía and the Spanish capital. The Carrión building, which houses the Vincci Capitol 4*, is an emblem of Madrid’s most urbanite side, and for one day Vincci Hoteles is offering the opportunity to discover its secrets, for Madrid Otra Mirada (MOM) 2016, which takes place from 21 to 23 October. An exclusive visit

The tour of this cinematically themed hotel will last 30 minutes, and will go over some of the history of the establishment, its anecdotes and the opportunity to see one of the two suites, 1102 and 1002, that are behind the famous Schweppes advert. The sign illuminates the rooms with its 104 coloured neon lights, which are on day and night, creating a magical, cosmopolitan atmosphere that invites one to dream. This is just one of the details that links the hotel to the world of cinema and have helped turn the building into an icon, in films such as Álex de la Iglesia’s ‘El día de la bestia’.

Vincci Capitol 4* is the only hotel to have an actual cinema in its interior. And it has themed rooms where the leading stars of all time of the silver screen such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin form part of the décor. The allusions to the seventh art are to be found all over the hotel, the smell of cinema popcorn fills the building at four o’clock every afternoon and it houses a projector from 1936, which has survived the passage of time untouched, and was found during the refurbishment of the hotel.

All this and more will be seen during the tour which will finish with a visit to the two terraces, on the 7th and 9th floors, with unbeatable views over Gran Vía and Madrid de los Austrias, and to the elegant Bar Reims, located in corner of the building, with incredible views of the capital’s great artery. A perfect place to relax after a tiring day, thanks to its cocktails and drinks.

Madrid Otra Mirada

Madrid Otra Mirada (MOM) is a project initiated by the Madrid City Council, now in its third year, designed to discover the cultural and artistic heritage of the capital, through guided visits, conferences, concerts and exhibitions. The two main attractions of the event are the possibility to get to know first hand historic buildings that are normally closed to the public, such as the Vincci Capitol 4*, and that most of the activities are free. This latest edition of MOM will have a special section dedicated to Carlos III on the three hundredth anniversary of his birth.
