Can we recover the ozone layer?

Today, 16 September, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, is a great moment to recognise the collective efforts made at an international level over the past 30 years to fix the problem. A world-wide project that is on track to restore the ozone layer, and which it is hoped will be completed by the mid-point of this century.

But to make this a reality, we all have to stay responsible: the work must continue; the commitment of all of us to the environment is vital. For that reason Vincci Hoteles has committed to sustainable mobility week, setting out a series of measures to reduce our carbon footprint.

Vincci Hotels joins forces with sustainable mobility week

If you’re in any of our hotels between 16 and 22 September don’t hesitate to ask at reception how you can help with mobility week.

Our team will be delighted to tell you about recharging points, our bike rental service (available at most of our hotels) or provide you with a map so you can explore the city on foot.

But education and increasing awareness aren’t the only pillars of our commitment to the environment. Having calculated the carbon footprint of each of our hotels in 2015, we’ve drawn up a CO2 reduction plan, which includes various emission reduction targets for our hotels and central offices as well as carbon off-setting goals. Some of the targets are annual, while others run over two or three years.

This helps us to have efficient facilities and equipment, which are reviewed and maintained to achieve optimal functioning; we’ve also installed devices that help us generate clean electricity; and at the same time we analysing our electricity consumption so we can detect any anomaly.

All of this is on top of the energy saving measures already installed in our hotels, as well as water saving and recycling measures that we explained on World Environment Day.

How do we offset our carbon footprint?

We’ll offset our carbon emissions through planting trees, which will absorb the CO2 from the atmosphere, at the same time as we reforest parts of Spain.

At the same time we are looking at collaborating with worldwide projects that will allow us to offset our carbon emissions by making donations.

Calidad Pascual unites with Vincci Hoteles for sustainability in Málaga

Calidad Pascual, the Costa del Sol Hotelier’s Association (AEHCOS) and Vincci Hoteles have signed an agreement to promote sustainability in Málaga.

This agreement is another step on our path to minimising our carbon footprint. As well as favouring the use of efficient, sustainable vehicles in Calidad Pascual’s distribution and logistics in Málaga, a programme has been set up to use new technological applications capable of optimising the delivery of products, by making the minimum number of journeys. For example in our case, our hotels in Málaga, we are able to make use of delivery requests without the need to have anyone present.

Under this plan, by 2017, Calidad Pascual has committed to reducing by 10% the CO2 emissions from the distribution routes it runs to Vincci Hoteles in the city of Málaga and other businesses in the region

At the presentation of the agreement, César Pérez, Director of Quality and Environment for Vincci Hoteles said, “since its creation Vincci Hoteles has made a series of commitments to the society we work in and to the environment, thereby making one of the company’s main aims the development of actions that help care for the locations where our hotels are located.

Pérez continued: “our chain integrates quality management and environmental care at each of our hotels and looks for suppliers who share our values. That’s the case here without a doubt and the agreement allows us to maintain our commitments and continue to meet one of our targets, which is the reduction of CO2 emissions from our hotels”.
