Polka dot dresses, combs, smart trajes cortos for the men and bright, open carnations: the Seville April Fair is here! And, as expected, the hotel with most bullfighting tradition in the Andalusian capital, the VINCCI LA RÁBIDA, will transform itself over the coming days to become part of Seville’s huge party, hosting various exhibitions and activities, including a traditional caseta, a tented stall where people gather to eat, drink and dance at the fair, in the hotel’s indoor patio.
Seville is getting dressed up to celebrate one of the city’s main festivals and at the hotel VINCCI LA RÁBIDA we don’t want to miss out. Just as every year, the hotel, run by the VINCCI chain, is full of excitement at the approaching highlight of the year in the Andalusian capital: the April Fair. Various exhibitions and other activities relating to the world of bullfighting will be held in the hotel between 21 and 26 of April, to make the guests and visitors part of this important festival, which coincides with the traditional bullfighting festival in “La Maestranza” Bullring.
Located in the centre of the city, in the Arenal neighbourhood, just a stone’s throw from the cathedral and “La Maestranza”, VINCCI LA RÁBIDA will be immersed in the spirit of the fair, starting with its indoor patio, which will host its own caseta, where you can begin to enjoy the atmosphere of the festivities before continuing the party in the fairground in the Los Remedios neighbourhood.
Over the next few days, painting enthusiasts will find various exhibitions in the hotel. The Bar Castelar will host an exhibition by one of the leading names of modern painting in Andalusia and Spain, the Seville artist, Pedro Naranjo, who has been exhibited in various parts of Spain and now comes to Seville, thanks to VINCCI LA RÁBIDA. With the name “Regalos con Arte: Meninas y Toreros” (“Gifts with Flair: Ladies-in-Waiting and Bull Fighters”) this original exhibition offers the viewers a series of portraits of these traditional Spanish characters, wearing the clothes of the epoch: somewhat avant-garde and abstract headdresses and dresses for the ladies, and 19th century sideburns and bullfighters caps for the men.
Meanwhile, the Library will show a number of works by Catalan artist Javier Montesol from his series on Bullfighting. Through them, Montesol explores the scenes and colours of the bullfight with his particular style, that references Marià Fortuny, Bonnard, David Hockney but above all Francisco de Goya.
Continuing with artistic works, the La Rábida bar will host over the coming days the minotaurs of the French artist, resident in Andalusia, Laurent Pallatier, “Loren”. An original work that took everyone by surprise at La Malagueta Bullring last summer, he transformed the traditional blood-red barriers of the bullring in toreografías, a technique that uses a paint-impregnated bullfighting cape swirled over the panel to be painted.
The line-up is completed by the first Franco-Spanish Bullfighting Conversations (Tertulias Taurinas) at the hotel VINCCI LA RÁBIDA, on Friday 17 and Saturday 18, both days at 1pm, where the discussion will focus on the future of bullfighting, with the presence of journalists Vincent Bourg “Zocato”, Antonio Barbeito, Carlos Crivell and professor Juan Carlos Gil.
And to finish off, on Saturday 25 at mid-day the book “Entre Martes y Venus” (“Between Mars and Venus”), a brief critical history of bullfighting, by Domingo Delgado de la Cámara, will be presented.
And as an accompaniment to all these activities, the restaurant of the VINCCI LA RÁBIDA, will be offering an appetising Fair Menu, with a variety of aperitifs along with dishes of fried peppers, garlic veal, deep-water rose shrimp, fried fish and cured Iberian pork products, among others – the ideal culinary complement to experience the fair to the full.
And all in the welcoming, distinguished atmosphere of this Seville hotel, a favourite of the bullfighters, designed around an 18th century mansion and decorated in typical Seville style, offering elegance, warmth and comfort. Its atmosphere, location and cuisine are an invitation to enjoy still further, if that were possible, the Seville Fair.
